In a future where most humans have moved underground to escape the pollution, one of the few pleasures left is a kind of narcotic in the form of chips which can be plugged directly into the brain. Lori, a female body guard steals a case of such chips and flees underground Los Angeles with Danner, a pleasure android so that they can smuggle the chips to New York. In pursuit is Plughead, a dangerous criminal so named because of the many sockets and ports which decorate his scalp so that he can test and use the chips that he is after.

In a dystopian future, Earth suffers from extensive pollution, forcing humans to live underground. In this world, thrill-seeking "chip" narcotics, plugged directly into the brain, are prevalent. The trilogy follows the central plot of sought-after narcotic chips and androids involved in smuggling and distribution, leading to complex chases between law enforcement, androids, and the criminal Plughead. Plughead, a dangerous criminal with multiple ports on his scalp, pursues his interests involving the chips, tormenting androids along the way. Themes of biotechnology, criminal pursuit, and recurring characters like Plughead are threaded throughout. Set in vividly realized underground cities, the trilogy captures a blend of sci-fi, crime, and action, showcasing the societal impact of advanced technology and the cat-and-mouse dynamics between law enforcement, criminals, and androids.
