The book "East of the Mountains" is being adapted to film, and two award-winning actors are on board.

Tom Skerritt have taken starring roles, Deadline reports. They'll play the father and daughter at the center of David Guterson's 1999 novel. Guterson, who is also known for writing the book "Snow Falling on Cedars," teamed up with Thane Swigart on the screenplay. SJ Chiro is the director.

"East of the Mountains" is about a dying man who decides to end his life on his , unbeknownst to his daughter. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Ben (Skerritt) goes on a final hunt with his dogs. However, on his trip, his memories and encounters with people lead him to question his journey.

Sorvino is an Academy Award winner for her role in "Lucky" and "Day of Days."

"East of the Mountains" will begin filming in Seattle and Washington's Columbia Plateau later this month. Guterson, Jane Charles, Mischa Jakupcak, and Jennessa West are the producers, and Stephen G. Hall and Eliza Shelden are executive producing.
