'Sopranos' Movie Lines Up Alessandro Nivola as Tony's Uncle
The "Sopranos" feature film, which will serve as a prequel to the hit HBO series, is lining up its first cast member.
Sources tell Variety that Face/Off" fame) is in negotiations to star as Dickey Moltisanti (Tony Soprano's uncle) in "The Many Saints of Newark."
The character, who was also Christopher Moltisanti (James Gandolfini) eventually heads.
"Sopranos" creator David Chase co-wrote the script and is producing, but not directing, the film.
It will be set during the Newark riots in the '60s. We'll also likely see young versions of Tony’s father and Uncle Junior.
Nivola's previous credits include "A Most Violent Year." He recently played Bernie Madoff’s son Mark in HBO's made-for-TV movie "The Wizard of Lies."
And of course, we'll always him as Nicolas Cage's smarter brother in "Face/Off."
And seemingly doomed Billy in "Jurassic Park III," who falls prey to some vicious pteranodons.
He was also nominated for a Tony for his work in the 2015 production of "The Elephant Man."
