It all started with the big bang, and the show will likely end with one, too.

"The Big Bang Theory" is in the midst of its 12th and final season, and the end just keeps getting closer. CBS has revealed the series finale date, and yes, it's really happening. The sitcom's hour-long final episode will air on Thursday, May 16, Deadline reports.

News came in August that Kaley Cuoco (Penny) would also have prompted its cancellation.

"The Big Bang Theory" had a good run. The sitcom, which also stars Kunal Nayyar, has been nominated four times for the outstanding comedy series Primetime Emmy Award. Meanwhile, for his role, Parsons has won three Emmys for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series.

"The Big Bang Theory" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
